Healthier Bagels with 5 Ingredients!

There is nothing better than a bagel- especially a fresh bagel that is homemade and happens to be healthier than other bagels. Plus, this recipe uses greek yogurt which has so many great benefits and ingredients, it’s an extra bonus.

These bagels are really easy to make and delicious.

*TIP*- Once cooled, I have found that the inside of the bagels could use a little more of a crisp. Sometimes the inside can still be a little chewy/doughy. I suggest slicing the bagels open when ready to eat and toasting them how you would a normal bagel.

This recipe is adapted from Skinnytaste.

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup all purpose flour (whole wheat would work, too)
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 cup greek yogurt (PLAIN!!!)
  • 3/4 teaspoon kosher salt
  • 1 egg white, beaten
  • Whatever toppings you want (I use Everything But The Bagel seasoning from Trader Joe’s)

Directions:

  1. Preheat oven to 375. You can grease a baking sheet, use parchment paper, or my personal favorite: use a Silipat
  2. Mix together flour, salt, and baking powder with a whisk. Once combined, add greek yogurt and mix with a fork or your hands.
  3. Flour a clean countertop or work surface and start kneading dough until it’s tacky but not sticky. TIP: use your non-dominant hand to knead so that the dough doesn’t get overworked.
  4. Divide dough into 4 equal balls and then roll the balls into ropes to be folded into bagel shape.
  5. Brush the tops of the bagels with egg wash and then dip into desired seasoning.
  6. Bake for 25 minutes & let cool before eating
